A great blend of happy and sad, persistence and resistance; this one heck of a success story, is great for young students who need a bit of help in figuring out who they are. Not to mention the movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal *drool*

That grasshopper realization she had is liiike an analogy - seems really cool. The green grasshoppers are like the vulnerable people in this world who aren't aware of their surrounding til it's too late. Not to mention the hardships this 11 year old girl had to endure at the turn of the 20th century. Dude can you imagine

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC IS MY LIFE OMYGOODNESS - my brother and i love these sorts of books. I'd usually read the text and he would explain the pictures. This is pretty much education at it's best

I watched this movie with a couple of friends, just for fun, because one of them recommended it - said it was hilarious and that the plot was really "something else". Well. She wasn't wrong. It's so interesting, it takes all these twists and turns that fills you with laughter for days. This movie isn't for everyone - as in, I'm pretty sure it's PG but if you're down to laugh your butt off with a couple of friends, I definitely recommend it; especially at your next Friday night sleepover.

I pulled this book off my younger brother's shelf one evening, because I wanted to try to convince him to read something this summer. Before I knew it, I'm up til 3 in the morning, just devouring chapter after chapter. It's such an easy read (4-6th grade), the illustrations are very well drawn and there are just enough of them throughout the book. I really enjoyed the fast-paced story line; following the main character on this insane "adventure" you can call it, where he ran from the cops, the FBI librarians, found hidden passages and uncovered the city's mystery to save the United States of America's secrets hidden in a quilt. What a read! Sometimes, it's really refreshing to go back and read those simple books where it's the action and little details that matter most rather than the vocabulary or huge character development.
