Have you ever heard of something called Everblaze? If you didn’t it is a fire that destroys everything in its path. Eveblaze is only put out by something called frissyn. In order to save Eternia and the people they love, Sophie and Fitz must defeat the ferocious Everblaze in “Keeper of the Lost Cities: Everblaze” book three of the series. In the third book, a variety of events occur. After Sophie tells the Council she could heal minds, the Council decides they are going to heal Fintan. While they were trying to heal Fintan he made Everblaze go into the sky. Sophie, Fitz, and Councilor Oralie almost died but instead, Kenric pushed them away, saving them. At his funeral, the Ogre King came. Sophie wanted to know if the ogres were at the sanctuary so she was going to read his mind. When she tried, the Ogre King realized it quickly and told the councilors. Sophie’s punishment for reading the Ogre King’s mind was that they were going to take away her abilities. When Sophie told Grady that Brant killed Jolie, Grady went to confront Brant. Sophie had to help Grady so she had to take off the thing that took away her abilities. That’s why Alden decided that Sophie and her friends were going to go to the Black Swan. What I liked about the book was that Shannon Messenger creates a clear perspective of the internal conflict that the main character Sophie faces. I also loved the emotions portrayed by the different characters in the novel. I think the theme of this book was “if you set your mind to it you can do it”. I think that is the theme because despite the gadget supposedly taking away Sophie’s abilities, her determination allowed her to read the mind of Mr. Leto. When the Council asked she tried if it worked it did but Sophie didn’t give up Sophie kept pushing all her mental force to do it. She eventually did it but didn’t tell the Council. Sophie Foster, the main character, is always in danger because the Black Swan planted their secrets in her. The Neverseen has been tracking her and trying to get the information about the Black Swan's secrets. Sophie doesn’t want Keefe, Fitz, Biana, and Dex to come, scared they would also get hurt. Some characters that almost always had Sophie’s back are Keefe, Biana, Fitz, and Dex. Keefe is a prankster; he also is an Empath meaning that he feels Sophie’s feelings. He also comes with Sophie to go to the Black Swan. Biana, Fitz, and Dex also come with Sophie to the Black Swan not wanting to leave Sophie's side. Something interesting that I learned about the Elven World is that it’s ruled by something called a Council. The Council is usually half males and half females. I would give this 5 stars because it is creative. I would recommend this to kids in fourth grade because it has some violence. It was very emotional and understandable.

The dark tale of Adelina Amouteru begins where she is known to be a survivor of the Blood Fever, a plague that swept through Kenettra, and if you survived you would receive mystical powers. Adelina is being sold off by her father, by men who come at night. His father decides to sell her off to pay his debts. After hearing this Adelina starts packing her valuables and thinks about running away. Her father chases after and tries to persuade him to come back, but when that doesn’t work he resorts to violence. This unleashes Adelina’s mysterious powers and this leads to her killing her own father, with the horses trampling him. Brutal. She gets caught by the Inquisition Guards while running away, and gets thrown into a prison in the capital city of Estenzia. When she’s having her final meal a prisoner comes in, getting pulled by the guards into the cell next to hers but unleashes his power at them and kills the guards. This person is revealed to be The Reaper. Also known as Enzo. He is another survivor of the blood fever. He used his powers to free Adelina out of jail, seeing how much of an asset Adelina can be to the Dagger Society and the Young Elites. This is how much I would want to cover, not give any spoilers. This is not a summary, not a book review to answer your homework that’s due on the next day. Ok? <Spoilers> Overall I think the character’s are amazing. Adelina has great story development seeing that she kills her family member in the very first chapters of her life story. This builds up her dark side leading for her objective of just residing peace into the world. I feel like that she is under discrimination and she is suffering, while the other elites just want Enzo to take the throne. We see new and new characters each chapter. I’m going to make this a bit shorter and cover up the side characters, the antagonist and the plot, I really don’t wanna take 15 minutes of your time. Raffaele is the type of character who you would think would betray the main character, when in reality that some different, other guy, I’ll get to him later. Raffaele is basically her keeper, and he guides the way for Adelina in the first half in the story. There is a scene though that proves that he is cautious and thinks that Adelina is a threat to the Young Elites and the Dagger Society, though their trust builds up throughout the story. Raffaele is a great support to Adelina putting his faith and trust. Enzo on the other hand, in my opinion thinks that Adelina is just an asset to get him the throne. There is no other reason that Enzo would even break her out of the prison. She even thinks in her mind when Enzo say’s “we couldn’t save them anyways,” when it actually meant, “I just don’t see the potential in them.” Enzo is very crucial to the plot though seeing that he gets killed with his fight with Teren. Another person who got killed was Spider. Also known as Dante. Dante is very suspicious of Adelina, but his sole purpose is just wanting to get her out of the Young Elites seeing that he despises her and overprotective of Enzo and his relationship. The book overall is decen seeing that the worldbuilding in this book somehow relates to society in real life. Seeing that there is a lot of discrimination, and how malfetto’s are treated. A decent 4.5 but I can’t do 4.5 on DOGObooks so… a five I guess.

Have you ever heard about alicorns? Well an alicorn is a horse with wings and a horn that can teleport— just one of the many magical beings that you’ll read about in “Keeper of the Lost Cities: Book 2”. Sophie Foster finds an alicorn and the alicorn transmits that her name is Silveny. When Sophie finished getting her mind fixed she almost got kidnapped again. Luckily the Black Swan stepped in and helped her. During the process Silveny hurt her wing. Sophie and Silveny were supposed to make a grand opening to the sanctuary. Sophie realized she could teleport so she rode on Silveny and teleported her there. When Sophie was moving up a level, the Foxfire always had a party. When it was the upper grades turn Alden saw Whylie and he fainted. This happened because Alden had a broken mind. Elves thought no one can heal a broken mind but Sophie saved Alden because she was made that way. A theme I saw in the book was “never give up” when Sophie saw that Alden had a broken mind. She started crying in the beginning. She kept getting told that no one can fix a broken mind. But when the Black Swan said that she could fix her mind issues so that she could fix others like Alden and Prentice. She went and they said that they made her heal minds so right after she got limbulim she had a bad allergic reaction. Sophie still kept fighting because she wasn’t going to leave Alden like that after what he did for her— she never gave up. Now I am going to tell you about a few characters. Sophie Foster is mostly good at everything. She has many powers and that is rare. Dex is Sophie’s best friend. He is smart and people say that his parents are a bad match. Keefe is an Empath and always has been at Sophie’s side and he could feel Sophie’s emotions. Some buildings in the elvin world are similar to the world we live in. In the Elf world there are Gates, Big houses, Gardens and Caves. A part of the book that can be improved is when Sophie gets fixed and kidnappers try to get her. Wouldn’t the Black swan know already because they know things right away? That’s just one of the things that confused me and distracted me from the plot. Overall, Exile was confusing but still a good book even though it has some rough spots. I still give it 5 stars because it is a very adventurous book with all kinds of exciting events, like hunting down bigfoot, flying on an alicorn, or going into exile. I also really enjoyed the diversity of characters and the important themes portrayed in the novel. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this book to kids my age around 9-10 years old.

Have you ever imagined that elves could be real? Or that dinosaurs were still alive? Even that places like Atlantis were real? Well all of those things are real in The Keeper Of The Lost Cities. Here are some things that happen in the book. Sophie was shocked when someone told her she was an elf. He was also an elf too. So that explained to Sophie that she can read minds after she hit her head when she was 5. When someone picks her up and gets her to the elvin world the council there tells her that she is an elf. She is now living with 2 people Grady and Edaline. They used to have a daughter named Jolie and died in a fire. She almost went to Exile for breaking the law. She is sad because when she went to the elvin world to live there they had to brainwash her family. She soon realizes that she was the project of the moon lark, meaning that the Black swan made her In the elvin world you have powers and if you had more than one it was really rare and Sophie has a lot more than one power. People kidnapped her while she was in a cave. They tried to brainwash her but didn’t work. They took off her tracker and put it in the ocean so it looked like she died. She sent out a signal to Fitz but Fitz thought it was a trap because he went to her funeral. They told him that if you don’t come then I will die. A theme I learned from this book was, ‘don’t be afraid to do something’. Sophie was scared at times but she always overcame it. For example when she was at the top 2 at the splotching match. She was going against Fitz who has been winning for years but she still ended up winning. Sophie never loses courage in what she does even if it means risking her life. Some memorable characters are Sophie and Dex. Sophie is good at everything; she beat Fitz in a splotching match and Fitz has been winning for years. Sophie was told she was an elf and had multiple powers. She goes to a school named Foxfire. Her group of friends always had her back when Stina always teased her. In that group of friends there is Biana, Dex, Fritz, Keefe, Marella, and of course Sophie. Dex is Sophie’s best friend. He is smart and is not failing alchemy. Most people fail alchemy. There are some memorable fictional places that Messenger uses in Keeper of the Lost Cities. There are similar buildings in the elvin world that we have here, such as gates and big houses, trees that take in pollution, gardens and cliffs and even caves. Despite the great parts that I enjoyed from Keeper of the Lost Cities, there were some parts that were confusing. I just didn’t understand how a brainpush worked. After you get energy after years does your brain just push the energy out like a powerful blast? I will still give it five stars because you could feel how the character feels. When Sophie left her family you could feel the pain she was feeling like leaving your family after living with them for so long was heartbreaking. I also liked how the book could be very unpredictable, and you find out new things page after page. Overall, I would recommend this book to 3rd grade and older, as there is some violence, but it seems that it would be very enjoyable for people who like exciting books that give you a rollercoaster of a ride.
