I LOVE Little Women, both the movie and the book. It is pure, glorious, sisterhood captured in a beautiful story. Having two sisters myself whom I am very close to, this movie has always been really close to my heart, and reading the book a few years ago made it even better. It is all about the struggles, triumphs, and experiences of four sisters growing up in the Civil War, but mostly it is an ode to sisterhood, a tribute to the beautiful relationship that can only be shared between sisters. Meg is the oldest, hardworking, compassionate, and proper, but she has her challenges. Growing up in a family far from wealthy, she finds herself wishing for things that she may never have. Jo, the main character, is a writer. She's creative, fun, and anything but proper, but she too has trials of her own. She's stubborn, prideful, and finds herself being incredibly possessive over her sisters. Beth is sweet, quiet, shy, the embodiment of service, and an excellent piano player. She is, however, quite ill for many years leading up to the end of her life in her twenties. This great loss is tolling and dark for all of her sisters. Amy, the youngest, is an amazing artist, blessed with natural talent and skill, but she is often very over-dramatic and entitled, focused on trivial matters and worldly things. The March sisters make a friend who becomes like a brother to them, Theodore Lawrence, or Laurie, who is a major part of crucial moments in their lives. The sisters show how important it is to build a relationship of trust and adoration with one another, and to never let others get in the way of their friendship.

White Bird by R.J. Palacio is a wonderful book! Unlike the other Wonder books by this author, this special book is a grafic novel with full color illustrations. I loved reading it and I think all others that have read and adored Wonder or Auggie and Me will be inspired and awed with this one as well!
