Skilled drum player. Loving big brother. Steven Alper is just a normal, 13-year-old boy with a cute (sometimes annoying) little brother who adores him. Suddenly after a nosebleed that leads to the ER, Jeffrey is diagnosed with leukemia, a deadly disease, and Steven's world is instantly "turned upside-down". He becomes popular at school and is always at Jeffrey's side for his Chemo treatments. Steven goes through ups and downs, but is devastated when he is pitted between school and Jeffrey, especially when Jeffrey needs him the most. Fabulous book. :)About 8 years agokjtennis added a new comment in
I happen to love art and it is my favorite subject. I have read Kid Presidents and Kid Athletes and thought they were exceptional. My siblings were excited to read this books, too, when we checked them out at a local library. I hope we will be able to win this book and read it all together.Over 8 years agokjtennis added a book review.
Rachel (a.k.a. Ratchet) is homeschooled, motherless, and friendless, with her quirky, mechanical father at her side. When he is punished with community service hours at a community center (teaching a class on how to build a go kart), Ratchet hopes she can make some new friends in the process. Along the way, Ratchet discovers a box filled with items and pictures that belonged to her mother, some of which might have lead to what happened to her and why she left. This book is written as a series of writing assignments and journal entries. 5/5 stars for Ratchet and her journal!!!Over 8 years agokjtennis added a book review.
Elliot and Nory are just two kids with wonky powers at Dunwiddle Magic School. They attend the magic program that is for students whose magical powers cannot be focused on or contained. But soon, Elliot and Nory are sick of magic school, and want to try to test into "normal" classes. Will they join the "normal" kids, or will they have to stay with Ms. Starr and the crazy kids of UDM? "It’s never easy when your magic goes wonky."Over 8 years agokjtennis added a book review.
Emma, Jess, Megan, and Cassidy are all unique girls each with a problem of their own. So when they are all shoved into the Mother-Daughter Book Club, they aren't thrilled. What started as an assigned reading of Little Women soon helps them overcome their issues in their everyday lives. When all of the girls find themselves in trouble, they end up wondering, "What would Jo March do?" This book would appeal to people who like realistic fiction, drama, and friendship stories. I loved it and hope you read it!Over 8 years agokjtennis added a new comment in
