California resident Jim Denevan, is an amazing artist whose work is admired by all, but owned by none - that's because all of Jim's art is created on an unusual canvas - the soft sand. He sometimes spends days working on a piece, only to see it washed away by the sea or a storm and that, is just the way he likes it.
Having lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida all his life, 11-year-old Peyton Robertson is well aware of the havoc caused by hurricanes. At the tender age of 4 he suffered through Hurricane Wilma, one of the most intense tropical cyclones from the Atlantic and then just last year experienced Hurricane Sandy, the deadliest, most destructive storm of the 2012 season and the second most costliest of all US storms.
The human tendency to gravitate towards people that are similar to them starts early. In school-age children, the behavior called homophily, or 'love of the same' often has to do with how others dress or act. Adults tend to form groups based on social stature, professions or personalities. Turns out that forming cliques and shutting out those that are "different" is not just a human trait. South Africa's Chacma or Cape baboons display similar tendencies as well!
