Black Panther

Black Panther (2018)

King T'Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country's new leader. However, T'Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne by factions within his own country as well as without. Using powers reserved to Wakandan kings, T'Challa assumes the Black Panther mantle to join with ex-girlfriend Nakia, the queen-mother, his princess-kid sister, members of the Dora Milaje (the Wakandan 'special forces') and an American secret agent, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.

This movie is not only seen as an action-packed adventure, but also a breakthrough. If you don’t understand the power of representation, imagine growing up never seeing a superhero who looks like you. When American Girl dolls came out Addy would always be my first choice. Addy had escaped slavery. But now kids have #Black Panther’s Nakia, Shuri, and Okoye. Dope on my levels. I believe that this fan speaks for a lot of people as she recognizes how powerful this message is. It is a representation of how important identity and diversity is. Hopefully this movie will inspire and “change the game” in film as we know it. (Updated about 23 minutes ago)

Although Marvel has always tried to represent the best of all humans, most of us can agree that there isn’t much diversity. Popular superheroes such as Spiderman, Iron man, and Captain America, etc. have always have the same basic features as far as intellect and physical strength. 17 Marvel films have been made created and sadly, we have not had a person of color or a woman be the superhero. However, the new movie, Black Panther seems as though it may change all of that. This movie is not only seen as an action-packed adventure, but also a breakthrough.
