For anyone wishing to tickle the tummy-buns of a Double Bacon Cheespider, there's a menagerie of colourful mutants to distract your attention from the absence of anything more substantial. The original Cloudy didn't have the warmth of Despicable Me or the snark of Shrek. But it did have more humour than this new film. Obligation rivals inspiration in this passable sequel to 2009's zappy, gastro-themed digimation. Here is another happy, psychedelic digimation for kids, its two-dimensional characters delirium'd into 3D. It's no triumph of screenwriting or subtext. But it's a feast of ingeniously rendered gastronomic insanity -and that'll do. Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn (working from a script by John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein, and Erica Rivinoja) have expanded on it nicely, crafting a film that feels like the natural successor to the original without simply rehashing its story. The movie's imagination, inventiveness and humor are its selling points. Sony Pictures Animation certainly knows how to make an entertaining animated feature. There's no doubt animators have once again beat the odds and created an enjoyable sequel to another surprise hit. The characters are actually better rounded this time and evolve in fun ways. Now that they're all together, the dynamic of the film is much more fun and lighthearted. It's a loosely-written story that only the duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller could sketch out. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 dives in deeper in its appetizing-utopian realm, and it's a bit unnecessary at times, but it's still able to provide hilarity, colorful personalities and heartfelt vibes, that though it isn't as striking as its predecessor, it's still solid. 3.5/5. Admittedly I didn't finish "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2." Couldn't, in fact. I found the animation a bit annoying, and I was not terribly interested in the inventor Flint Lockwood's story. Perhaps I've been spoiled by the amazing Pixar fare, like the "Toy Story" or "Shrek" films, which are more fun to watch. A definite step down from the original but still fun inventive and beautifully drawn. Hader's voice brings much depth to his character and also good are Forte, Caan and Faris. I think it has a good moral for kids and wry enough humor for adults. 02-16-2014. Much more effort involved than your typical "animated kid's movie sequel made in the 21st century". The story might not be quite as straightforward as the first Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, but it ups the fantastical quality, making me appreciate it even more. Such a great hangover film. I actually really like this sequel to Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. I like the characters and the cute strawberry Berry. It was somewhat ok, creative but at the same time strange it was ok to watch I didn't mind but not a fan of it. Not as good as the original, but nonetheless still stood out among the kids genre as a very special film. While not a perfect sequel to the original Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs movie, due to its recycled plot ideas, this movie provides nearly just as much fun and laughs, new and lovable characters, and best of all, animation that is top notch compared to any other movie Sony Pictures Animation has ever released. My overall opinion: 9/10. This movie contains too much peril. The most smart role model is Sam, and the movie teaches you to play with your food, such as putting a strawberry into a tree. OK. The creative team was rewarded a pizza party after this, I just know it. My, what an absurd, but creatively exuberant movie. Again, this franchise's writers were tasked with a simple premise. Last time, it was "what if it rained food?" This time, it was "what if the food became animals?" and they nailed it. Every "foodimal" design in this movie is just delightfully clever; with almost everyone of them being an animal based food pun! The animation brings them to life beautifully; and the writing grants charm to all of them.
